Prior to Gallipoli the Australian forces set up training camps in Egypt, known as camp Mena. The camp was about 10 miles from the center of Cairo, just on the outskirts of the city. The pyramids and Sphinx at Giza made for a spectacular backdrop at the training camps, providing enough space for training drills and maneuvers for unlimited troops The licensed war museum photo that is framed in this collage features camp Mena and the Australian mascot, a kangaroo. Also included in the frame are two rising sun medals from the 1904 third hat badge pattern. A certificate of authenticity is supplied with the framed military collage.
